Diplo launches SoundCloud account supporting new music

Mad Decent head honcho Diplo has launched a SoundCloud account hosting music he approves of.

Aptly titled Diplo Approved, he took to Twitter to let his followers know about the new account, where he’ll re-post any tunes that tickle his fancy.

Only a few tracks appear on there at the moment, including a Genesis remix of Schoolboy Q and Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Collard Greens’ collaboration, Emoh Instead’s ‘Say So’ EP, a remix of Slum Village and ‘Suburbs’ by Norwegian singer Mr Little Jeans.

Check out Diplo Approved here.

Bonobo digs deep for an Essential Mix debut you should hear

Basking in the critical success of his most recent album The North Borders, Simon Green AKABonobo has been riding high well into 2014, following a massive 140-date tour and plans to headline the iconic Alexandra Palace in London in November. This past weekend was especially big for the UK producer, performing at Coachella Music Festival on the same evening as the airing of his debut Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1.

While Bonobo’s approach to the mix was to simply play out the “broader spectrum” of music he enjoys, one quick glance at the tracklist below is evidence enough of his seasoned selection skills. Soulful cuts from artists like Awanto 3, Dauwd, Cuthead, Jimpster and Romare sound out among deeper, broodier tracks from Mano Le Tough, Ten Walls and Throwing Snow. Aside from showing his home label Ninja Tune some love by highlighting music from label-mates Kelis and Illum Sphere, Green showcases some of his own work, including his remix of Maya Jane Coles’ Something in the Air. Check it out below.

Bonobo Essential Mix tracklist
01. Vangelis – Abraham’s Theme
02. Bonobo – Don’t Wait

Dance overlord Diplo creates new SoundCloud to post ‘Diplo Approved Tunes’

(Photo: The Diplo ‘Smile of Approval’)

In another step to establish himself as the all-seeing-eye of emerging music, Diplo has created a new SoundCloud to repost ‘Diplo Approved Tunes’.

Already an authority on new music distribution – shown through the highly acclaimed Diplo and Friends on BBC1, and that cheeky little monster entity we all know as Mad Decent (have you checked out the BitTorrent bundle, holy smokes!), this move is just another in the Diplo-for-(delicious)-dictator campaign.

Opened yesterday, the account – described as; ‘new music, suggested and approved by Diplo’ – already features a host of tracks from artists inc. Mr. Little Jeans, Schoolboy Q. and the entire Say So EP from our very own Emoh Instead.

After having a thorough listen through the tracks handpicked by Mr. Diplo – it’s pretty easy to see that this guy has respect for a reason. Brother can sift through the shit to find some gems, giving some well earned publicity for some seriously dope emerging talent.

All hail Diplo! Access the full SoundCloud here.

Anna Lunoe Delivers ‘Clubby’ Diplo & Friends Mix

anna lunoe

One of Australia’s brightest producers and personalities Anna Lunoe has delivered a clubby mix for Diplo’s longstanding ‘Diplo & Friends’ mix with the Mad Decent label owner calling her “one of his favourite DJs ever” while also recounting the pairs close past!

Anna intro’s things with a tease of some big hits from Jimmy Edgar, Doubledutch, Panteros666 as well as the first listen of two exclusives “BDT” and a Katie A (??) remix of her new single  ”All Out” – hype.

Following on with the Australian connect the series was also visited by fellow spark Wave Racer in March who packed a punchy mix while Jersey rep Benzi managed to squeeze in cuts from Cosmo’s Midnight and L D R U into his November mix.

While we’d still like to call her our own she made final move to the states through last year while working on projects with The Alexanders – Yuksek and Alex Metric’s collaborative project as well as Fools Gold singees Oliver who helped produce her breakout single “Breathe” that earned a release through Ultra Records.

Having just played Coachella weekend one things are looking better than ever for the Australian lass. Well deserved to say the least.

Download the Mad Decent Block Party mixtape

It’s almost summer, which means the Mad Decent Block Party is rapidly approaching like a crashing blimp plummeting to earth (it was the first metaphor that came to mind!). The lineup looks great – it includes OutKast, Chance the Rapper, Dan Deacon, Flume, Riff Raff, Run the Jewels, and more – and now you can download a mixtape that features material from all those artists so you can brush up on their new stuff before you catch them live. Check it out.

Diplo and Friends Become Official Models For US Soccer Team

Spike Lee

Brace yourselves, The World Cup is coming and Nike have given the US soccer team some much needed style with the help of a few trendy threads and friends. Look out NFL, NHL, MLB and all the other three letter acronyms!

Mr worldwide (thankfully not Pitbull) aka Diplo aka 1/3 of dancehall group Major Lazer, who recently encouraged everyone to send him demos and even featured Wave Racer on his Diplo & Friends mix has thrown his influence into the event by featuring in a photoshoot alongside Spike Lee and free spirited indie babes Haim before the official event held in Brazil later this year.

It all seems to appropriate that the Philly born-braj joins the campaign due to his close affiliation to Dancehall and Baile funk scene that is ever so popular over in South America.

13 Downloads You Won’t Regret

[Other Downloads You Won't Regret]

Frank Ocean, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon & Diplo – “Hero”
Converse’s “Three Artists. One Song” series kicks out another stacked-as-fuck, scorching jam.

Tame Impala: “Stranger In Moscow (Michael Jackson cover)”
With news of a new live EP coming up for Record Store Day, it doesn’t seem like Tame Impala is anywhere near close to releasing a new album. Putting out an excellent Michael Jackson cover is a great way to appease the masses.

Childish Gambino: “What Kind of Love”
Want more of Gambino’s latest album, Because The Internet? CG let loose this free download of swooning bonus track, “What Kind of Love.”

Oceaán: “Turned Away”
Another throbbing, utterly unpredictable taste from Manchester producer Oceaán’s upcoming self-titled debut EP. Think James Blake’s Overgrown on a mind-altering substance or two.

Phoenix – “SOS In Bel Air (Ariel Pink’s Krystal Bamboo Remix)”
Mr. Pink gorgeously slows Phoenix’s roll with his take on “SOS In Bel Air.”

Shlohmo & Jeremih – “No More (Boots Remix)”
Producer Boots got snowed-in in February, and decided to add a verse to Shlohmo & Jeremih’s “No More.” Long story short, it was a good choice.

Jeremiah Jae – “Survival (Feat. Oliver the 2nd)”
“Survival” is the composed first taste of Jeremiah Jae’s soon-to-be-released Good Times mixtape.

Lydia Loveless – “Verlaine Shot Rimbaud”
On the country-twanged “Verlaine Shot Rimbaud,” Lovless expertly emotes a tale of power and struggle.

D/C – “Devil On My Shoulder”
D/C ‘s “Devil On My Shoulder” sounds like something a classically trained James Blake might make. Brilliant.

Elbow – “New York Morning”
Elbow may have dropped their sixth LP a few weeks back, but its atmospheric standout “New York Morning” is still spinning strong.

Fucked Up – “Paper The House”
Everybody’s favorite “band you can’t name-drop on the airwaves” is back—and in top form, too.

La Sera – “Losing To The Dark”
“Losing To The Dark” finds Katy Goodman at her most pummeling, aggressive, and refreshing state yet.

Party Dolls – “Indigo”
Party Dolls is a self-described “semi-obscure supergroup” made up of members from Crooked Fingers, The District Attorneys, and Tedo Stone.
