Tiesto’s taken a decent dose of the chill pill in which he prescribed to himself this time last year with his ‘Deep House’ radio show and gone a little bit left of centre from his usual big room signature sound thang and created a dreamy Coldplay booty of their track ‘Midnight’ that was produced by electronic don Jon Hopkins.
The dutchman, who very carefully labelled this tune ‘Experimental Tech-House’, still manages to push in a subtle break but keeps the overall tone very calm through relaxed percussion and soft kicks complimented by Chris Martin’s non-invasive vocals.
Experimentation seems to be the flavour of the moment with big names, especially Deadmau5, who trolled Ultra Music with a bootleged nursery rhyme adding to the similar genre of sound through Richie Hawtin’s label Plus8 Records.
Who else do you want to see remix “Midnight”?
Just yesterday BBC Radio 1 announced a handful of new resident DJ’s for 2014. You’ll soon be listening to sweet selections from Tiësto, trance man Simon Patterson, Bromance founder Brodinski and teenage dream Martin Garrix. They take over from Tessela, Nervo and Steve Angello among others, for the Thursday night shifts at 9-10pm and 12 midnight – 2am.
Returning to the Radio 1 airwaves are Brodinski and Patterson, who have demonstrated their mad mixing skills on the show “In New Dj’s We Trust”. Tiësto is already on a roll with Radio 1 by producing the most downloaded podcast in the world, his “Tiësto’s Club Life”.
This leaves young Martin Garrix as the only of the four to not have contributed his talents to the channel. He knows the influence BBC Radio 1 has when catapulting new music/artists onto the scene and says he is up for the challenge “Radio 1 are big supporters of my track ‘Animals’ and are taste makers in the world when it comes to dance music on the radio,” he says. “I’m excited to be a part of that..”.

Let the BBC Radio 1 takeover begin!
SXSW has come to a close for another year. The Austin based festival certainly had its ups (unearthing some amazing new talent and giving us a week full of spectactular live shows) and downs (notably the tragic death of three following the unforgivable behaviour of one vehicular menace; and to a much lesser extent the arrest of Tyler, The Creator for ‘inciting a riot’) in 2014. But for those who stuck it out all the way through to the closing Sunday may have got a little more love than anticipated.
Far removed from the beaches of Ibiza, Tiesto was spotted in Austin dropping beats for lovelorn folk in the search for the one at an exclusive Tinder party. If shirtless, fist pumping, 6 pack reppin’, boss dawgs is your thang, you might be a little dirty that you missed out on this ‘intimate’ gig. Canadian radio presenter Laura Leishman loaded up a quick vid to show off some of the party-goers where she ‘like literally rejects them, in front of them’. Brutal. No doubt there were plenty of bros and hoes swiping their way through the evening.
No word whether the big man utilised the app himself, but could Tiesto and Tinder be kicking off a special relationship of their own? Is this the future of dance parties and lonely ravers? Let’s hope not.
Check out the vid for some pretty stock footage of the party.
